She-Hulk is a Marvel property that can either be done very well or very poorly. Just look at how Jennifer Walters has been portrayed in comics for the last few years and you’ve got an excellent example of the latter. We’re now starting to hear some rumblings about the upcoming Disney+ series and it sounds like all might not be well in MCUland.
News of the issues come from Ankler reporter, Jeff Sneider. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:
“I’ve heard not good things behind-the-scenes, and I’ve asked whether it’s Moon Knight or Ms. Marvel or Secret Invasion or any of these [projects], they are always like, ‘She-Hulk is the one that could be a problem.’ I’ve heard it from people working on it, from people actually working on it who are just like, ‘We’ll see.’ I think that’s a lot of Marvel things, honestly, and you know where it’s just like, ‘Ugh, this could be really stupid, like we’ll see. I’m sure people making Guardians of the Galaxy felt that way, right? And most of the time [Marvel] pulls it out. But there will come a time where they won’t, that’s just the laws of moviemaking, the laws of numbers.”
We are holding out hopes that perhaps the concern is that the series is leaning back towards the portrayal of Jennifer walters/She-Hulk in the 90s- early 0’s. That could definitely be causing concern behind the scenes, but if it’s the case, the fans will be happy if they do it right. Until we start to see more from the series, we’ll have to wait and see.
