Rumor: ‘Star Wars: Rebels’ Sequel Series In Development

If you watched the final episode of The Mandalorian, you noticed a weapon that’s become well-known to fans of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. While the Mandalorian is now done until sometime next year, Clone Wars is coming back in a few weeks and now we’ve got a rumor that it might be joined by another show later this year.

Several outlets are reporting that Star Wars Rebels could see a sequel series as early as later this year. As you may recall, the series ended after the events of The Battle of Endor with Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren heading off into the outer rim in search of Ezra Bridger (and possibly Thrawn). The potential series could be a perfect storm of awesome for Disney. The story of the adventures of Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren is one that many fans are very interested in seeing. It is a story that takes Star Wars away from the influence of the Skywalkers, while still keeping just enough of a thread in Ahsoka to make it feel somewhat connected. Also, it gives Disney an excuse to make a Star Wars series led by a female cast that feels natural and not like it was created for PR reasons.

The rumors go on to say that Dave Filoni will be attached to the show in some capacity, but it’s not currently known if he’ll be show running as he’s gotten a taste for live-action after his well-received work on The Mandalorian. If you’ve never seen the ending of Rebels, check out the final scene below, which would seemingly lead directly into the rumored sequel.
