A few days ago, it was announced that The Walking Dead/ Invincible’s Steven Yeun was joining the MCU for an undisclosed but significant role in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie. Yeun is a fan-favorite film and he has never disappointed whether it’s his above-mentioned TV work or films like Okja, Mayhem, or Minari. So, the idea of having him join the MCU is more than a little exciting. Now the only question that remains is, who will Yeun be playing?

There are now several online sources who are reporting the rumor that he’ll be playing Robert Reynolds/ The Sentry.

The Sentry is one of those Marvel characters that you either love or hate. He’s a character that they created a backstory for, to make it seem like he’s been in the world since the beginning of Marvel. In reality, he didn’t exist in comics until the 90s. Before he regains his powers, he’s just Bob Reynolds, an overweight, recovering addict who remembers being Sentry, a hero with the power of one million exploding suns. But, it turns out that he’s not only the hero, he is also Sentry’s arch-nemesis, the Void. Over the course of his time in comics, he’s been everything from a solo hero to a member of the Avengers and also a member of the Dark Avengers.

We’ve got a feeling that the MCU’s Thunderbolts is going to combine the concepts of Thunderbolts and Dark Avengers together under the thumbs of President Ross (Harrison Ford) and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Luis-Dreyfus).

Given Sentry’s instability, we can absolutely envision a film where he’s recruited to join the Thunderbolts, but ends up snapping and turning into the film’s main antagonist. It would definitely give the movie an excuse for Ross to finally make the jump from paper pusher to Red Hulk.

Either way, he’ll be joining a cast that already includes Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko).
