GQ magazine recently had the chance to visit Ryan Reynolds on the New Orleans set of “Green Lantern” where he talked a bit about his motion capture suit and filming in New Orleans.
Reynolds refers to his capture suit as his “fantasy dancing jammies” and admits that “it feels worse than it looks,” sweating through scenes in the New Orleans heat.
“It’s made of actual woven misery. Whatever material they’ve used, they’ve managed to make it the most heat-conducting substance known to man. I literally begged them to just put me in a nonbreathable rubber unitard,” Ryan says of the suit.
Describing another recent location, he continued: “It was like shooting an entire movie inside Alec Baldwin.”
Additionally, GQ was also able to confirm a mysterious alien guardian that was visible at a vital point in the film: “This afternoon a newly empowered Green Lantern meets two aliens who will train him in his new powers and role.
“Everything is shot against a blue screen with orange letters dotted over it. One of the aliens is played by a man on stilts. Reynolds cowers on the ground in his gray dotted one-piece as the man on stilts leers toward him.”
Could this be a scene of Kilowog? I can’t possible imagine anyone needing stilts to act and he is the Corps resident instructor.
Regardless, while this movie will look fantastic on screen, it doesn’t help with the condition the cast has to endure while filming in the New Orleans summer set. And in a playful exchange between Reynolds and his alien costar:
“You smell funny.”
“You smell,” Reynolds retorts, “like a bag of a–holes.”
