After a 10-year hiatus “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” will be making its way back on television in an all-new CG animated series. Archie Comics recently announced that they have partnered up with Moonscoop entertainment to bring a new Sabrina show to networks soon, and hopefully as soon as October of next year.
“This is the first new animation for Sabrina in almost 10 years,” says Archie CEO Jon Goldwater. “It’s a combination of ‘Twilight’ meets ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’… she’s more modern.” By modern, Goldwater means “current,” and by current think… skinny jeans, spiky hair and a tattoo.
In terms of premise, the new Sabrina will be more action-oriented than previous incarnation such as the ABC’s short-lived Saturday morning “Sabrina: the Animated Series,” which ran from 1999 to 2000 or the popular Melissa Joan Hart sitcom that ran from 1996 to 2003 on both ABC and then the WB network.
The show will also be more supernatural says Goldwater, “It’s a little more dealing in the supernatural realm.”
“With Harry Potter coming to an end, we wanted to fill that void,” says MoonScoop CEO Mike Young.
“She’s a teenage girl with superpowers for god’s sake. So Sabrina fits perfectly.”
