Next to Star Wars, there was one panel that I was really excited about this year, The Muppet. They were visiting Hall H to promote their new show, The Muppets, a show that falls somewhere between the classic Muppet Show and The Office. The mockumentary style show will skew towards a more adult audience.
The best part of the panel was having the muppets actually on stage along with the performers and producers of the show, but you’ll see that in the video.
Here’s what we learned from the panel:
The fictional show that will serve as the backdrop of the new series is Miss Piggy’s Late Night Show: Up Late with Miss Piggy. Kermit is the executive producer, Gonzo, Pepe, and Rizzo the Rat are the head writers, Scooter is the talent coordinator, Fozzie is Piggy’s sidekick, Bobo the Bear is the stage manager, and Sam Eagle is the head of broadcast standards for the network.
The show posed new challenges to the muppeteers because they are in regular locations and not on sets where special areas can be built in to hide them.
They also had to figure out how to work in the comedic timing against challenges like the fact that Muppets can’t open doors.
Bobo The Bear is the hardest Muppet to perform as they need to use a harness.
In the show, The Muppets will have love lives. Fozzie is dating a Cuban woman and gonzo is trying his hand at online dating.
Meanwhile, Kermit and Piggy have split up.
