Here’s a random bit of news out of Comic-Con. Today, Joss Whedon announced that Buffy The Vampire Slayer would finally be getting a reboot. There’s been some rumors about the project for a while, but it’s now official.
Midnight, Texas creator Monica Owusu-Breen will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner for the new series after having worked with Whedon on Agents of SHIELD. No star has been cast, but it’s being reported that FOX is looking for an African American actress to fill the role.
It will be interesting to see how fans take to a reboot of such a beloved series when the original is still so fresh in people’s memories. You can be sure that there will be some immediate detractors based on the network seeking to make the show more diverse than the original, but it really shouldn’t matter as long as the show is good. Besides, it’s not like we haven’t had a black slayer before. Let’s just hope this one sticks around a little bit longer than the last one.
