According to a report by The Wrap, Marvel is eyeing “Selma” director Ava DuVernary to helm either Captain Marvel or Black Panther. Marvel is looking to add some “diversity” to their craft and if DuVernary lands the role she would be the first female director to helm either Marvel first solo female superhero film or Marvel’s first film featuring a hero of color in a leading role (Not counting Blade as it wasn’t a Marvel film). DuVernary is a talented director and would be a great fit for either characters given her accomplishments with “Selma.”
Black Panther is expected to make his debut in “Captain America: Civil War” before spinning off in his own film in 2018. Meanwhile, Captain Marvel is tentatively scheduled for a 2019 release.
