Several outlets are reporting that Warner Bros is looking at Anne Hathaway as the human lead for their planned Live-action Sesame Street musical film. There is no current word on the plot of the movie, but we know that Portlandia co-creator Jonathan Krisel is directing with Shawn Levy creating the music for the film. Levy has been involved with the movie since it first went into development at FOX in 2012.
As to how Hathaway fits into the film, it sounds like her role would be the one that was described by Variety a few months ago. She’ll probably play Sally, a girl who appeared in the very first episode of Sesame Street and was given a tour by long-time Sesame resident Gordon, who introduced her to all the classic characters like Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Ernie and Bert, Grover and more. As to what would bring Sally back to the street after all these years is the crux of the film’s plot.
This won’t be Hathaway’s first trip to Sesame Street. In 2007, she appeared in an Elmo Christmas special where she sang “I Want a Snuffleupagus for Christmas.”
