The rumorville’s been grinding about the strong possibility of screenwriter/director Shane Black replacing Jon Favreau in the directors chair for Marvel’s “Iron Man 3.”
Favreau announced that he would not return to helm the third Iron Man film and Black seems to be the man to replace him. If you’ve never heard of Black, then shame on you. He is an action/comedy writer/director and has films such as “The Last Boy Scout,” Lethal Weapon” and my favorite “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” under his belt. While he’s only directed one film (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), he did an outstanding job of it and would be an ideal candidate to helm “Iron Man 3.” Not to mention he has also worked with Robert Downey Jr. prior (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang).
If Black lands the gig, we can assume that he would also pen a draft.
Several weeks ago, Black was tapped to write “Death Note,” Warner Bros.’s adaptation of a manga, and is currently working on “Doc Savage,” Sony’s action project based on the classic pulp hero.
“Iron Man 3” is currently scheduled for a May 3rd, 2013 release.
