Fans have been excited to see the long-awaited fifth chapter of the Shrek franchise, but it looks like they are going to have to wait a little bit longer for Shrek 5 to hit the big screens. THR is reporting that Dreamworks has shifted the film back from its original July 1, 2026 release in favor of a Christmas release on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2026. The film will tell the next chapter of the story starring the voices of Mike Myers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy (Donkey) and Cameron Diaz (Fiona).
Meanwhile, the third chapter of the high-earning, but hard to watch Minions franchise, has been pushed up. Minions 3 will now land in theaters on July 1, 2026, instead of its previous release date of June 30, 2027.
