The internet has been crying out for Squirrel Girl to join the Avengers in the MCU, with many people pointing to Anna Kendrick as the perfect Doreen Green. According to TV line, it looks like we’ll be getting our girl, but but she won’t be in the Avengers and she probably won’t be played by Anna Kendrick.
The news site is reporting that ABC and Marvel are currently shopping around a ‘New Warriors’ TV series to various cable and streaming networks. They are describing the how as a junior Avengers team. Based on that, you’d have to guess that the show would be part of the MCU, but you never know. There’s also no news as to which other teammates will be joining Squirrel Girl in her adventures.
Some of the many heroes who have belonged to the team include: Firestar, Marvel Boy, Namorita, Nova, Speedball, Night Thrasher, Silhouette, Rage, Hindsight Lad, Bandit, Dagger, Darkhawk, Powerpax, Turbo and the Scarlet Spider.
If there’s one ray of hope that the small screen project could attract Kendrick to the role, it’s that we know the Russo Brothers would love to direct her as Squirrel Girl and a show like this, inside the MCU, could be a good jumping off point to get the character into the movies.
