STAR TREK Heading Back to CBS in 2017

There’s been a lot of talk about a potential Star Trek series coming back to network television in the last few months. Now, we know that it’s more than just talk. THR is reporting that a new series will begin airing on CBS, just in time for the show’s 50th anniversary.

The show is being developed by Alex Kurtzman and will feature all new characters exploring the cosmos and inevitably breaking their prime directive over and over and over again.

There is currently no writer attached to the series as of yet. Kurtzman will not be taking up that responsibility, despite the fact that he has produced JJ Abrams’ reboot of the film franchise and co-wrote the first two New Star Trek films.

The new, as of yet unnamed series follows in the footsteps of the original CBS drama, which may have only aired from 1966-67, but spawned a plethora of other shows including the 1973-74 animated series, Next Generation (1987-1994), Deep Space Nine (1993-99), Voyager (1995-2001) and Enterprise (2001-05).
