‘Star Trek’ The Most Pirated Film Of 2009

Reuters reports that J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” reboot was the most pirated film of 2009 with roughly 11 million illegal downloads.

Coming in a close second is “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” at 10.6 million downloads, according to data from TorrentFreak, a blog about filesharing.

While those two movies were among the biggest of the year at the box office, the third most-pirated film was a box office flop.

“RocknRolla,” the creation of Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie, earned just $US 26 million ($29 million) worldwide.

Meanwhile, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” which made headline news due to a workprint leak, came in at number 9 with 7.2 million downloads.

The list is rounded out by “The Hangover” at number 4, followed by “New Moon,” “District 9,” “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” “State of Play” and “Knowing.”
