Star Wars: Bob Iger Talks Carrie Fisher in The Last Jedi and Episode IX

At the recent tech conference, “The Scale: The Future of Tech and Entertainment”, Disney CEO Bob Iger took a few minutes to address one of the biggest concerns that fans have for the upcoming Star Wars films: ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ and Episode IX. Fans will be happy that it doesn’t sound like Disney will be pulling any weird tricks. He went as far as to conrifme that “nothing about her performance as Leia in Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be altered, either by cutting her performance or through digital additions.

“When we bought Lucasfilm, we were going to make three films — Episodes VII, VIII and IX. We had to deal with tragedy at the end of 2016. Carrie appears throughout VIII. We are not changing VIII to deal with her passing. Her performance remains as it is in VIII. In Rogue One, we had some digital characters. We are not doing that with Carrie.”

That says nothing about what may happen with Episode IX, but for all we currently know, General Organa may actually die in The Last Jedi.

He also went on to talk about the upcoming Han Solo film starring Alden Ehrenreich, Woddy Harrelson, Donald Glover and Emilia Clarke. He told attendees that the film would take place over the course of seven years, covering the life of our favorite scoundrel from ages 18-24. He also said that the film will tell the story of how he “Got his name.” What the hell does that mean? Are we talking about reputation or is Han Solo not even his real name?

Finally, Iger assured fans that Episode IX would not be the end of the Star Wars saga.

“We’re starting talk about what could happen after Episode IX. About what could be another decade-and-a-half of Star Wars stories.”
