‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Doctor Who’s Matt Smith Joins In Key Role

Don’t expect that they’ll be trading out the Millennium Falcon for the TARDIS any time soon, but one former Gallifrian has just joined the cast of JJ Abram’s latest chapter of the franchise. Variety is reporting that Smith will be joining the cast in an as of yet unnamed, but key role in the film. This marks the second major fandom hire for the franchise in the last several days. Last Friday we got the announcement that Lost/ LOTR star Dominic Monaghan was also joining the cast.

We know that the film is starting off from a pretty controversial spot after the mixed fan reaction of The Last Jedi. That said, between these two announcements, as well as cast additions of talent like Kerri Russell, Richard E. Grant, Naomi Ackie, and the return of Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian, we can’t wait to see what Abrams has planned.
