Star Wars: Rangers of The New Republic Appears To Be Dead

It’s been a weird year for Star Wars. The Mandalorian continues to hit it out of the park, fans seem happy about The Bad Batch, and the Obi-Wan series can’t come soon enough. However, somewhere in the middle of it all are continued complaints about Kathleen Kennedy and a PR scandal with Mandalorian actor, Gina Carano.

Several months ago, Carano was fired from the series for some highly politicized tweets. This was made more controversial when some people in social media felt that the series star, Pedro Pascal had made similar comments in recent years, but on the other side of the political spectrum. Losing her not only left a hole needing to be filled in The Mandalorian, but it also left a major hole in The Rangers of The New Republic, a recently announced series which was said to star Carano’s character, Cara Dune.

There have been some rumors that the role would be filled by a live-action version of the Rebels character, Hera Syndulla, but it appears to no longer be the case. In a new report from Variety about the promotion of Dave Filoni to Executive Creative Director for Lucasfilm, they drop a one-line reference to the series in which they say “(A third announced spinoff, “Rangers of the New Republic,” is not currently in active development.)”

Does this mean the show is gone for good? Probably, but not necessarily. It’s a bummer, because we’d already fancast the show with Carano as Dune, Timothy Olyphant as Cobb Vanthh, and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Kim’s Convenience), reprising his Mandalorian role of Captain Carson Teva.
