Stephen Sommers is returning to ruin, er, I mean direct the next installment of the G.I. Joe film. I have no idea what Paramount Pictures is thinking with this move, but I guess it could have been worse. They could have gotten Michael Bay to director.
Before you write off “G.I. Joe 2,” however, there is a glimmer of hope that your childhood nostalgia isn’t completely ruined. The sequel is penned by the awesome duo that wrote “Zombieland,” Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. There’s been some good buzz about the early draft so the film hopefully isn’t entirely a wash. By wash, I mean straight to DVD and then burned collectively in a massive trash heap.
If knowing is half the battle, Sommers really need to step up his game having experience directing the first film. Hopefully he can find some redemption the second time around.
