Steve Carr, the comedic director of films such as “Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” “Daddy Day Care,” “Rebound” and “Dr. Dolittle 2,” is set to direct the remake of everyone’s favorite — “NO, DISASSEMBLE!” — 1986, “Short Circuit.”
The John Badham-directed original was deemed a cult classic and miraculously even spawned a sequel despite receiving terrible reviews from critics. And while the original was about a military robot named Johnny 5 who comes to life and develops a “personality,” the remake won’t be too different. Although for added emotional impact, the Carr-directed remake is set to have Johnny 5 bond with a lonely young boy.
Yes, you read that correctly.
Don’t fret just yet however, there are still signs that “Short Circuit” won’t completely suck and be instantly forgettable like most of Carr’s comedic “hits.” Dan Milano of “Robot Chicken” fame penned the script for the Dimension film and let’s be honest, if he can come up with anything better than the classic, “Hey laser lips, your mama was a snowblower” line, “Short Circuit” will be an instant Oscar contender.
