Studio Ghibli has made some of the best animated features. This is their latest film based on the children’s novel The Borrowers by Mary Norton. Ghibli’s film credits include Princess Mononoke, Whisper of the Heart, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and many other classics. Arrietty was released in Japan on July 17, 2010 and has a U.S. release date of February 17, 2011.
This trailer is of the U.K. dub for theaters but it’s a nice sneak peek. Hayao Miyazaki wrote the screenplay for this feature but didn’t not direct. He passed that duty to Hiromasa Yonebayashi. This is his first outing as director but he’s been with Studio Ghibli for a while now. The American release will have the voice talents of Will Arnet, Carol Burnett, and Amy Poehler. If you’re like me you don’t really care much about that and just want the subtitled version but generally the Disney voice work on the Studio Ghibli films isn’t too bad. Enough babble here’s the U.K. trailer!
*If the story looks familiar, that’s because it is inspired by the classic novel, The Borrowers.
