If you’ve been hoping for a return of Henry Cavill to the role of Superman, you can pretty much kiss that goodbye. It’s just been announced that JJ Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates are teaming up to reboot one of the world’s most famous heroes. While there hasn’t been a specific report that Cavill is out, they are talking reboot, and this definitely feeds into the rumors that Michael B. Jordan has been circling the property for the better part of the last two years.
Here’s Abrams’ comment about working with Coates on the new film:
“There is a new, powerful and moving Superman story yet to be told. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the brilliant Mr. Coates to help bring that story to the big screen, and we’re beyond thankful to the team at Warner Bros. for the opportunity,”
Here’s what Coates had to say:
“To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honor,” said the writer. “I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America’s most iconic mythic hero.”
THR has already come out with a report that Warner Bros is leaning towards a “Black Superman Story,” and there’s realistically no reason why Superman couldn’t be black, or any other skin tone for that matter. It’s not like we can speak with scientific accuracy to the skin tone of Kryptonians… the whole thing is made up. Now all that’s left to find out is whether the new film will be part of ongoing DCEU canon, an offshoot of the events of Justice League (Remember all the other Supermen who popped up in the comics with Superman died?), or if we are looking at an Elseworlds story.
Honestly, as long as it’s a good movie, we’ll be happy.
