Matt Reeve’s The Batman is starting to fall into place. He’s already got Robert Pattinson in place as Bruce Wayne/ Batman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, and Paul Dano as The Riddler. Now multiple outlets are reporting that two more big stars are circling roles for the film.
First up is Colin Ferrell. He is reportedly in talks to take on the role of The Penguin. If this happens, it would be a massive departure from the earlier stories about Jonah Hill vying for the role. Meanwhile, The man who’s known more for his mo-cap than his face, Andy Serkis is reportedly in talks for the role of Alfred Pennyworth. Both of these could be excellent castings, but it would mean that we are up to three villains and that is a little scary, at least based on what we’ve seen in previous superhero films.
The reason for the plethora of baddies could be the rumors that the film is based on the comic book story-arc, The Long Halloween. Taking place shortly after the events of Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One, The Long Halloween follows a young Batman as he tracks a serial killer who times his crimes to match up with holidays. Along the way, he spends the year going after nearly every villain in his rogue’s gallery on his hunt for the elusive killer.
