It’s been a long road for the CW’s scarlet speedster, but Barry Allen is going to hang up his running shoes at the end of a shortened season 9 according to a new report from Deadline. The new and final season is set to drop on the CW next year and will run for only 13 episodes, making it the shortest (and fastest season) to date.
It’s not currently known what the full cast of the show will be (though we expect the network to send him off in style). Along with Grant Gustin, we know that both Candice Patton and Danielle Panabaker will both return. Jesse L. Martin will appear in around five episodes, but he has a new series on NBC that takes priority. If that show isn’t picked up, he could appear more, but there’s no way to know yet.
Interestingly, the series ending is currently set to happen just a few weeks ahead of the premier of the beleaguered Flash film starring Ezra Miller. we don’t know if it’s a coincidence, or if Miller will appear in the show like he has done in a previous crossover episode.
