It was revealed at Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) that “Star Wars” is finally coming to Blu-ray.
According to Lucasfilm Director of Fan Relations Steve Sansweet, they’ve been working on a Blu-ray box set for a couple years. Here’s what he told IGN:
“We have been at work for a couple of years working on-I won’t call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff-but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material. We’re finding all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before. Beyond all of those things that you know about… there are some real treasures.”
Not surprising, Sansweet is refusing to call it an “Ultimate Set,” because that means they can get you to buy this lackluster inferior set only to release the “Ultimate Set” loaded with extras a few months down the line. Oh wait… that is what’s going to happen.
As Collider recalls, Sansweet had told Examiner just this very thing last year as San Diego Comic-Con:
“I can say with pretty good confidence that at some point in the next several years there will be a complete set of Star Wars movies and lots of extras and deleted footage and anything anyone could want.”
It still remains to be seen what will be included in this new Blu-ray set, but the reality is, “Star Wars” in just high-def would sell like hot cakes.
Look for “Star Wars” on Blu-ray this October 2011. If you can really resist the urge to not make the jump to high def, please do. I know I probably can’t.
