Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is having a great couple of years. He was Black Manta in Aquaman, he co-starred with Anthony Mackie in Black Mirror’s Striking Vipers episode, he was cast as the new Candyman in a reboot of the horror franchise, he’s a major player in HBO’s Watchmen series, and now he’ll be joining Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Ann Moss in the fourth chapter of the Matrix saga.
News dropped of the new casting announcement today via Variety. There’s currently no official word on who he’ll be playing, but we know it will be one of the lead roles in the film. If fan rumors are correct, we could be looking at a reincarnated take on Laurence Fishburne’s Morpheus from the original trilogy.
The Matrix 4 is currently slated for a 2022 release.
