Deadline is reporting that Disney’s child sports film franchise, The Mighty Ducks is currently in development for a new series on the Disney + streaming network. As of right now, Gilmore Girls/ Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist actress, Lauren Graham is set to lead the new series along with child actor, Brady Noon. and reports are that the studio is currently in communication with Emilio Estevez about appearing in the show as well. Things are moving fast on the series as it is said to be heading into production later this month for a premiere on the streamer sometime towards the end of 2020.
According to Deadline, here’s the premise for the new show: Set in present day Minnesota, the 10-episode series finds the Mighty Ducks having evolved from scrappy underdogs to an ultra-competitive, powerhouse youth hockey team. After 12-year-old Evan (Noon) is unceremoniously cut from the Ducks, he and his mom Alex (Graham) set out to build their own ragtag team of misfits to challenge the cutthroat, win-at-all-costs culture of competitive youth sports.
There’s currently no word on whether Joshua Jackson or any other original Ducks will make appearances, but we can hope!
