“The Munsters” are coming! Announced today, NBC has placed an order for a reboot of “The Munsters,” “Pushing Daisies” creator Bryan Fuller will develop.

The new series will be set in modern day, and the one-hour drama-comedy pilot is described as being “visually spectacular.” It’s been described as a a blend of True Blood and Modern Family.

According to THR “Fuller’s new look is said to be an edgier and slightly darker take exploring origins of Herman and Lily Munster (originally played by Fred Gwynne and Yvonne De Carlo) and how they arrived at the famed 1313 Mockingbird Lane address.”

Best of all, there’s been some buzz that Guillermo del Toro would also help in developing the series. This comes as no surprise as he’s recently had his hands in several shows and ABC’s “Hulk” series reboot.

While I’m not exactly clamoring for a “Munsters” reboot, it was one of my favorite shows as a kid and from the sound of everything, I am getting excited. I see a lot of potential for it to be a great comedy, just as long as they leave out all the camp that was so much a part of the originals.
