Directors Josh Gordon and Will Speck of the upcoming film Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile just sat down with Collider to talk about their next big project and it’s none other than the classic video game, The Oregon Trail. The middling reviews for the upcoming musical featuring Javier Bardem, Constance Wu, and the voice of Shawn Mendes have been less than stellar, but that hasn’t stopped the team from diving into a project that could not realistically be better than the third season of Miracle Workers.
Here’s what the pair had to say in their interview about the new film:
“It always had this dark band of humor running through it, because your chances of dying from everything from dysentery to a cut to anything was… Basically, every move you ended up dying.”
“For us, that’s returning a little bit to our roots in comedy, marrying it with the fun of doing a big musical, and also just the ambition of taking that very seriously as well and making a big historical westward expansion epic that’s also about dying from dysentery.”
The pair’s comedy roots include Office Christmas Party and Blades of Glory.
Meanwhile, if you haven’t seen Miracle Workers, here’s a scene from the Oregon Trail season featuring Daniel Radcliffe performing ‘She’ll Be Coming Round The Mountain.’
