While there are few heroes out there who deserve an R-Rating more than Wolverine, I get really worried when it becomes such a big part of the branding for the film. When it was done for Deadpool, it made sense. Making that movie rated R was always one of the struggles with getting it made at all. This just seems like FOX doesn’t want you to forget the last time they did an R film and how cool it was.
All that said, I’m pretty freakin excited that we’ll be getting to see a Wolverine that is completely unleashed. It looks like the film’s producer, Simon Kinberg, feels the same way. He was asked about the film during a recent junket for the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, and this is what he had to say:
“It’s a very radical, bold, different Wolverine than you’ve ever seen in any of these movies. I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say about that. I will agree with you that Patrick Stewart was rumored to be a part of that film. It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film.”
We won’t get the full picture until the film hits theaters in March of 2017, but it looks like they are getting ready to end Hugh Jackman’s X-Men Tenure on a pretty high note.
