After the recent release of the teaser poster for “The Thing” an early trailer gives us a glimpse into what this films is shaping up to be. At one point it was a remake and a while back it was announced to be a prequel to John Capenters 80’s effects fest “The Thing.” This film follows the Norwegian science team and what happened to them before Kurt Russell and his gang find the shape-shifting mutant and bring it back to their base.
Alright so this film looks a lot like a remake but, how can it not? It takes place on a small base in Arctic and it’s about a shape-shifting alien that takes out the small crew one by one (including the dogs!) The film definitely looks better than expected and I’m interested. Much of it seems like shots directly out of Carpenters film and maybe that’s not a bad thing. If it’s good it could bring a new legion of fans to truly one of my favorite horror films ever.
Directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Eric Christian Olsen, Joel Edgerton, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ulrich Thomsen, Kim Bubbs, Trond Espen Seim, Stig Henrik Hoff, Jonathan Walker, and Carsten Bjørnlund, “The Thing” comes out on October 4, 2011.
