This is some pretty promising news for the film. It looks like they’ll be abandoning gimmick in favor of actual story and action… what a novel idea! It was announced earlier today that The Wolverine will actually be a stand alone story and not really connected to any other films in the Marvel film universe. This is great news as the last Wolverine sucked harder than an alter boy trying to beg for an extra glass of communion wine. We also learned that the new film won’t be chock o block full of mutants like previous films, which actually really excites me for the movie.
Here’s what Hugh Jackman had to say about it.
“We’ve deliberately not called it Wolverine 2 because we want it to be placed and feel like a standalone picture.”
“With an all-new cast and setting it in Japan, it’s going to give us a whole new visual aesthetic.”
“The approach to character means we won’t be overloaded with mutants and teams and the like, so it’ll be more character-based. I think in many ways it will feel like a completely different X-Men film.”
