The first full trailer just dropped for Thunder Force, the superhero Netflix movie from Melissa McCarthy and Octavia spencer. We wanted to be a lot more impressed with the film than we are, but this just the first trailer, so we’ll withhold final judgment until we see the film.
In the movie, McCarthy plays the character her husband, writer/director Ben Falcone keeps writing for her – an awkward loser who has to overcome and prevail in the end. This time, after accidentally turning herself into a superhero, she has to team up with her childhood best friend to save the city.
Honestly, with all the money Netflix has been putting into movies over the last couple of years, we’d expect something better than early CW Arrowverse special effects, but hopefully this is just an unfinished product.
We’ve been big fans of McCarthy’s going back to the days of Gilmore Girls and The Nines. We are rooting for the movie to be good, but there’s something that just doesn’t click on the professional level when she makes a movie with her husband.
In a world terrorized by super-villains, one woman has developed the process to give superpowers to regular people. But when scientist Emily Stanton accidentally imbues her estranged best-friend with incredible abilities, the two women must become the first superhero team. Now, it is up to Thunder Force to battle the super-powered Miscreants and save Chicago from the clutches of The King.
