Tickets For 3D Movies Will Now Cost More Begining Tomorrow

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that 3D ticket prices will begin to go up starting tomorrow:

The new prices take effect Friday in many markets across the country in theaters owned by such major exhibitors as Regal Entertainment Group, Cinemark Holdings Inc. and AMC Entertainment Inc.

It’s unsure how much more the ticket prices for 3D films will increase beginning tomorrow, but it the change will vary among markets and theater chains. For instance, if you’re paying over $17 now, this change most likely won’t affect you. In other places where your ticket price is set to around $15~, you can darn well expect the price hike to come into effect.

With 3D films being a cash cow and the depleting sales of DVDs, the price hike was inevitable. What this really translates into is that as more films become 3D, soon enough everyone will be pay over $17 for a night out at the movies. And with companies like Panasonic and Sony bringing 3D technology to home entertainment, theaters are feeling the pressure to nickel and dime you as much as possible before they start to lose sales and essentially dinosauring their way to extinction like the arcade industry.
