In what seems like a joke, the folks at MovieHole are reporting that Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp and Keanu Reeves are being sought by MGM to take on the lead role of Officer Alex Murphy, AKA Robocop.
According to the report, MGM have not actually approached any of the actors, but have been considering them for the lead role. Meanwhile, MGM has hired Jose Padilha (Elite Squad) and screenwriter Josh Zetumer to develop the reboot.
As of now, “Robocop” is purely in conception. Nothing is finalized and there no plot details are available at the moment. While we have no doubt that a Robocop reboot is possible (in fact it could be a tentpole or major franchise for MGM), we scoff at the idea that Cruise, Depp or Reeves would actually want the role of the half cop, half cyborg, all badass Robocop who was originally played by Peter Weller.
