David Goyer’s next big project will actually be appearing on the small screen. He’s teamed up with The BBC and Starz to create a new show called ‘Da Vinci’s Demons’. The show features a young Da Vinci who is coming into his own, but struggling heavily with downsides of being such a good prognosticator of things to come.
In the last few hours, Starz has just announced that the show has finally cast its main character, Leonardo Da Vinci in Tom Riley.
“Given that da Vinci was the model for the ‘Renaissance Man,’ these were incredibly large shoes to fill,” Goyer said of the search to cast the role. “Leonardo had to be smart, witty, and incredibly confident – without coming across as arrogant. He also had to be tormented, because, as a true visionary and polymath, he was ostracized for his ideas as much as he was celebrated. Tom came in and was able to effortlessly combine all of those elements. As soon as he finished his audition, we knew we’d found our man.”
Tom has done some work in the UK on TV in ITV’s drama, ‘Monroe’, but he is mostly known for his distinguished career on both the American and British stage.
