Murder can be a difficult crime to solve, but when you go ahead and throw time travel into the mix, you know things are going to get weird. From the looks of this first trailer, weird is an understatement for In The Shadow of The Moon, the new film starring Boyd Holbrook, Michael C. Hall, Bokeem Woodbine, Cleopatra Coleman, Rudi Dharmalingam, and Rachel Keller.

Granted, it doesn’t look like nearly as much of a mind-screw as the 2014 Ethan Hawke film, Predestination (check it out if you haven’t seen it!), but the idea of a killing spree happening over several decades while a mystery woman is traveling in the opposite direction through time sound pretty interesting, even if some of it does make us think back to River Song, Doctor Who’s Wife.

In 1988, Philadelphia police officer Thomas Lockhart (Boyd Holbrook), hungry to become a detective, begins tracking a serial killer who mysteriously resurfaces every nine years. But when the killer’s crimes begin to defy all scientific explanation, Lock’s obsession with finding the truth threatens to destroy his career, his family, and possibly his sanity. Directed by Jim Mickle and also starring Michael C. Hall and Cleopatra Coleman, IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON is a genre-blending psychological thriller that examines the power of time, and how its passing can either bring us together or tear us apart.
