Deadline is reporting that Netflix has greenlit a live-action series based on the popular anime/manga, One Piece. The new deal set up a 10-episode series with Tomorrow Studios and Shueisha. If Tomorrow Studios sounds familiar, it is because they are also spearheading the live-action Netflix adaptation of Cowboy Bebop.
There is no word on casting as of yet, but Steven Maeda (Lost, The X-Files) is writing, showrunning and executive producing, while Matt Owens (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Luke Cage) has been set as the writer/executive producer.
If you aren’t familiar with One Piece, it tells the story of Monkey D. Luffy, a pirate in search of the One Piece treasure so that he can become the next pirate king.
