Universal Pictures is developing a new version of “Scarface.” But it won’t be a sequel or an outright remake of 1983 classic that starred Al Pacino as Cuban gangster Tony Montana.
Rather, it would be a modern day spin set in today’s age drawing on elements that made the original so successful and interesting. Namely achieving the American Dream through whatever means necessary even if it’s through violence, ruthlessness and criminal determination.
The film will be produced by Marc Shmuger and Martin Bregman, the veteran producer who made the 1983 feature. No writes have been named, as it’s still in very early developments.
On paper this sounds like a good idea, but realistically we all know it’ll never be as good as the original which to this day, still remains on of the most recognizable films ever made.
