‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ Release Moves Up Thanks To ‘Shang-Chi’s’ Box-Office Win

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is now looking at an estimated $140 million in global box-office receipts for it’s opening weekend and that does more than guarantee we’ll be seeing more of Simu Liu as Marvel’s biggest new hero in the near future. It means that we’ll also be seeing Venom: Let There Be Carnage from Sony sooner than we expected.

Just a couple of weeks ago, Sony pushed the Spider-Man universe film sequel starring Tom Hardy Michelle Williams, and Woody Harrelson back from the originally planned release of October 15th until late January of 2022. Now they want to ride on the new wave of superhero excitement and strike while the iron is hot. Deadline is reporting that the film is now slated for release even earlier than originally planned on October 1st.

The new film will be filling a slot that was originally set for Hotel Transylvania 4, but Sony sold the film to Amazon for a reported $100M when research showed that parents weren’t quite ready to bring their kids back to the theater.
