In a recent interview with THR, Vin Diesel confirms that the studio is planning on doing multiple “Fast and Furious” films, after the box office success of “Fast Five,” which expanded the film’s world to an action-adventure heist.
“With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enough space,” Diesel tells THR.
“We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships,” he says, of including past characters played by Eva Mendes [photos] and Michelle Rodriguez [photos] in the films.
“And when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages. The studio said, ‘You can’t fit all that story in one damn movie!'”
The fifth film in the “Fast and the Furious” franchise earned over $625 million worldwide.
It’s assumed that the future films will be shot back-to-back to reduce production costs and include both a smaller storyline and another that would play out over both movies.
