WB Is Still Making A ‘Suicide Squad 2’ And Production Starts Next Year

It’s a shame. Warner Bros gave themselves a great opportunity to pivot. They just launched their first universally praised film in the DCEU, and they could have taken this as an opportunity to move forward, fresh. Even with promises from Joss Whedon that he will not be making tonal changes to Snyder’s Justice League, it is hard to image that his mere presence wouldn’t lighten things up a couple shades from the muted colors and “MARTHA!” of the movie’s precursors. And yes, Suicide Squad did make money. That is a good enough reason to spin out characters likes Harley Quinn, but it really doesn’t feel like it is enough in this case to give the whole team a sequel. Not when it is considered to be such a critical blemish on the franchise. Yet, here we are.

In a new interview for his role on House of Cards, Squad star Joel Kinnaman had this to say about a sequel to a movie that taught America that you can’t trust a trailer:
“As far as I know they’re writing the script and I think the plan is to shoot it sometime in 2018, but that could change. I think I’ll definitely come back for it.

Ultimately, I’d love for David Ayer to direct it, but if he doesn’t want to direct it then someone who is great with character and that’s able to ground the story and maybe put these characters in a more normal situation. It would be really interesting to see these crazy characters interact with regular people as well.”
