Webb Of Spider-Man Confirmed

With the departure of Sam Raimi, surprise frontrunner Marc Webb of “(500) Days Of Summer” has officially been announced as the new director of Sony’s next Spider-Man movie.

Sony and Marvel have confirmed the news with a statement:

“This is a dream come true and I couldn’t be more aware of the challenge, responsibility, or opportunity. Sam Raimi’s virtuoso rendering of Spider-Man is a humbling precedent to follow and build upon,” says the new man in Spider-Town.

“The first three films are beloved for good reason. But I think the Spider-Man mythology transcends not only generations but directors as well. I am signing on not to ‘take over’ from Sam. That would be impossible. Not to mention arrogant. I’m here because there’s an opportunity for ideas, stories, and histories that will add a new dimension, canvas, and creative voice to Spider-Man.”

Additionally, according to reports, this next installment/reboot of everyones favorite wall crawler will feature a much younger Peter Parker and may even follow the Ultimate Spider-Man style of narrative. So expect a lot of teen angst and “Why doesn’t she notice me?”

The reported budget for the reboot is a small $80 million, which is pitiful when compared to modern blockbusters coming out lately, especially one of comic book nature. Does this mean we’ll get less spider powers and superheroic action? How much of the budget is going into its 3D creation? Only time will tell, but it has been rumored/feared to be a very tweeny film and movies like “Twilight” and its sequel have been dropped in comparison *shudder*

Whatever the case, I’m sure Sony knows what they are doing getting Webb on board, and I enjoyed “(500) Days Of Summer” enough to have full faith in Webb and his comic book directorial debut.
