When Roland Emmerich first started word on his sequel for Independence Day, he created two scripts: one with Will Smith and one without. It looks now looks like that was a very smart move.
Deadline is reporting that Smith has turned down the role for the sequel. While this is sad for a lot of fans, it is a good thing in some ways. Now, the movie is no longer on permanent wait and see mode while Smith makes up his mind.
Given that there are now two sequel scripts out there, I’d love to see the other produced as sort of an Elseworlds style comic or possibly even an animated direct to DVD feature.
