According to Variety, Columbia Pictures is getting ready for a remake of their 1984 hit “The karate Kid.” The script is being written as we speak by Chris Murphy. Now here’s the interesting part. Apparently Will Smith’s son, Jaden Smith has been tapped to play the role of Daniel, originally played by Ralph Macchio.
This won’t be the first film outing for Jaden. His first film was “The Pursuit of Happyness,” which starred his father.
You’ll also be able to see him in this Winter’s “The Day The Earth Stood Still.”
“Karate Kid” will begin filming next year in Beijing and other cities. It will borrow elements of the original plot, wherein a bullied youth learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor.
