With the Disney/ Fox deal done, there are a lot of questions as to what is going to happen with FOX’s Marvel properties, but it looks like plans are moving forward until the mouse says otherwise. To that end, we’ve got some news about the development for both X-Force and a third Deadpool movie. First, the two are not the same movie. It had long been thought that Deadpool 3 would be the X-Force film. We now know that is not only not the case, but that X-Force is going to come out first.
Rhett Reese, one of the writers of Deadpool 2 had this to say:
“According to the chronology that we’ve established, X-Force will be next, before Deadpool 3. It’s a bit of the ‘Iron Man 1, Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Iron Man 3’ model, in that sense. X-Force isn’t being written by us. It’s being written and directed by Drew Goddard, or at least that’s the plan right now. We’re not involved with that one.”
“We do anticipate there will be a Deadpool 3 at some point,” he continued, “but it’s just a little premature because it will definitely take a backseat to X-Force for the time being. We’re constantly in touch with Ryan, and we’re always throwing ideas back and forth via text and phone conversations. So, it’s always at the front of our minds. We’ll get there when the time is right, but as of right now, X-Force is next up.”
That just leaves the question as to whether the film is going to happen at all. We know that the Deadpool miniverse is about as far from Disney as you can get, but we are hoping they let it exist in a pocket universe of its own while they focus on integrating the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Silver Surfer into the MCU.
