Yasuke – First Trailer For New Netflix Anime Series

In the 16th Century, a black man from Mozambique was brought to Japan as the slave of Jesuit missionaries. He was not only considered to be the first black man to ever actually set foot on Japanese soil, but through a series of events, he developed a relationship with the notorious warlord, Nobunaga and he eventually, the man known as Yasuke became earned the title of samurai.

While Chadwick Boseman passed away before he was able to film the live-action retelling of this little-known historical tale, Netflix is bringing a fictionalized version of the story to the small screen in the form of an anime. With the series set to drop April 29, the streamer has just released a new trailer for the film that sets up the story and the mystical angle that this adaptation will explore. The new anime stars LaKeith Stanfield (Sorry to Bother You, Knives Out). Check out the full trailer below:

But when a local village becomes the center of social upheaval between warring daimyo, Yasuke must take up his sword and transport a mysterious child who is the target of dark forces and bloodthirsty warlords. Premieres April 29, only on Netflix.
