One thing you might have noticed from Saturday’s new Justice League trailer was the distinct lack of Superman. We know he’s coming back. Now Snyder talks about what it means to the team. In a new interview with USA Today, Snyder shied away from talking about how they’ll be bringing him back to life, or if we’ll get to see him as an official Justice League member in the first film, but he did talk about how having him come back to join a team that was started because he died could be problematic for the other members of the team.
“It was always a super-intriguing concept to me to have this opportunity to have him make that sacrifice but also have him be this, in a weird sort of way, the why of Justice League: What do you do now with him? What does the team think? What does the world need? All that comes into play. It’s fun for us but it’ll be interesting for audiences what we do with him.”
This doesn’t make me more excited about the film. It sounds like an unneeded complication to what could have been an interesting and straight forward story. It’s just more darkness to go with the serious lack of daylight in the last trailer.
One very interesting thing from the trailer is that Zak Snyder singled out Cyborg as the heart of the movie.
“You have Jason stomping around as this inked hairy man, just this mythic figure. And you’ve got Ezra, who’s full of life and hilarious and all over the place and amazing — a really fun and also poignant Flash. And Ray’s story is in a lot of the ways the heart of the movie.”
