First announced at SDCC, we now have our first look at the Masters of the Universe mini-comics that’ll be included as individual action figure pack-ins for Mattel’s Masters of the Universe Classics toy line beginning 2012.
From Dark Horse Comics, the new mini-comic series (three issues in all) will be written by Tim Seeley, with interior art by Wellington Alves and covers by Eric Powell.
This will be a very cool throw back to a toy tradition that began with the original MOTU toy line from 1982-1987.
The comic books stories are expected to pick up from where the original MOTU toy line’s mini-comics left off in ’87 with the dinosaur-infused “ComicsThe Powers of Grayskull – The Legend begins!”
According to Seeley via CBR, the new tale will finish off “the never-told story that was to be the new direction of the [original action figure] line, right before it was canceled.”
The stories however, will not be tied to the continuity of the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe show.
