Mondo has a reputation for making beautiful art prints, high-end statues, and hyper-detailed action figures. Meanwhile, Funko makes Pop! figures, the Beanie Babies of our generation. Now it looks like Funko is making whatever Mondo makes, because they bought the company away from Alamo Drafthouse.
In a report that came out today from Variety, it was revealed that Funko had acquired “Mondo, which creates and sells vinyl records and soundtracks, posters, toys, apparel, books, games and other collectibles. About 30 Mondo employees are joining Funko.”
Here’s what Funko CEO Andrew Perlmutter told Variety about the sale:
“Mondo’s devoted fanbase and high-end pop culture collectibles make it the perfect complement to Funko’s current portfolio of brands,” he said. “By leveraging our international distribution and licensing network, we feel well positioned to expedite the growth of the Mondo brand.”
For our part, we’re a little nervous, but we hope this doesn’t hurt Mondo’s ability to make amazing products.
