It isn’t all that often that we get to review a book for you here on YBMW, but the fine folks over at Kotobukiya sent us over a couple copies of the their Otacool Volume 2 and we thought it was definitely cool enough to share it with all of you.

For those of you not in the know, Otacool comes from the phrase “Otaku is Cool.” For those of you even less in the know, Otaku is the Japanese name for people who are super fans. Generally, the term is used mostly in the realm of geek friendly things like toys, anime and (in this case) cosplay.

As I just mentioned, cosplay is the topic of Otacool V.2 and the book does not disappoint. The book is 125 pages of vivid photography and some of the most beautiful cosplay models around the world… oh and there’s some guys in there too.

Sure, the book isn’t perfect, there’s some broken English and a couple really minor things like that, but if there’s any complaint to be had about the book it is that it is too short. Some of the models who appear in the book, like Yaya Han and Linda Le, have also appeared here on YBMW as our girls of the month and I know that they probably could have filled two dozen pages of photos themselves. OK, I am probably just being greedy. The book is an enlightening look into the world of cosplay through the people who do it right (not the people who you usually see squeezed into spandex at conventions like so much over-stuffed sausage).

Here are some of our favorite models from the book:
Aira
Yukino Koro
Mizuno Shiro
Aochi Akira
Area 91
Saya
kotori
Haruna Kozue
Necoco
Usagi
Shito
Linda le
Daydreamernessa
Clodninja
Jessica Ishii
Julia Laurant
Aura 74
Alodia Gosingifiao
Ashley Gosingifiao
Aoba Gito 114

Along with the photos, you get to hear a little bit from each of the models about why they like to cosplay which is actually very interesting. Then, of course, you also get a nice little feature on Danny Choo, who worked with Kotobukiya to create the book.

If you don’t like anime, or at the very least, don’t like attractive women in costumes than this is not the book for you, but if this is your thing, you’d better try to pick one up as soon as you can. It is already sold out on Amazon. If you need a little more incentive to check out the book then just wait until you see what we have coming up in next few weeks. We’ll be working with Kotobukiya to bring to features on some of the Otacool ladies right here on YBMW.
